WE’LL TAKE THE LOW ROAD TO INDEPENDENCE
Earlier this year I was most privileged to listen as Charlie Abel explained the origins of ‘Loch Lomond’ and the Jacobite brothers who were prisoners required to choose who would live and who would die. Charlie tells the tragedy far better than I could and I hope one day you hear him tell it, sing and play his accordion afterwards.
These are pivotal times for Scotland and most particularly for the independence movement. Some within it think they’re on high ground and appear to talk down to others. They are guilty of forgetting the efforts of those who paved the way. They are most especially blameworthy for ignoring the aspirations of those who elected them to fight with every sinew for the independence our country so desperately requires.
Whilst Scotland is an ancient nation and Independence is a natural and normal state, clearly the restoration of our statehood is not an easy task. It will though become more likely if every Independenista is welcomed to the table.
Today we observe a landscape rather different from 2014. The SNP is not in the ascendancy on 30 odd per cent; support for Independence is 20 points higher. Simple arithmetic tells us that a campaign to secure a majority vote needs every vote for every Independence candidate. This is why #ScotlandUnited is both vital and necessary.
With #ScotlandUnited there are no divisive issues such as those which have bedevilled the Scottish Government recently. We maximise support for Independence when we enable all independence supporting parties and views to participate. We have no need to pretend that one party has a monopoly and every vote for Independence will take us closer to that worthy goal.
The low road requires a simple acknowledgement that #ScottishIndependence is our mutual desire. No single party can claim to own the movement, all independence supporting parties can participate then our country will vote for Independence and the hard work will begin.
