The opinion of Professor Robert Black KC delivered just 10 days ago narrates that upon the Union of 1707 Scotland in effect was the subject of a takeover and overnight everything changed for Scotland; for England, it was business as usual with the added bonus of access to Scotland’s resources, geographical, agricultural, industrial, mineral and human, without a concomitant return to Scotland of a rightful share of that bounty.
That imbalance remains to this day and requires rejigged forthwith. No longer should Scotland’s oil, Scotland’s gas, Scotland’s water, Scotland’s wind and wave power bankroll developments in England for the sole benefit of the people of England. Scotland need not house weapons of mass destruction on the Clyde. That we do, along with the dangers this presents, simply serves to confirm how low in the pecking order of the United Kingdom Parliament Scottish lives are.
It does not have to be this way.
We know that when there is a concerted campaign for Scottish Independence, when there is hope, when there is a plan, when there is a strategy, when the people of Scotland can see the road ahead, support for our nation’s Independence is huge.
The Scots are renowned worldwide as being intelligent, crafty, inventive, brave and resourceful. For centuries our education system was the envy of the world. Scotland’s engineers, builders, travellers, explorers, inventors, scientists, medics built the world. We, as their descendants, can build our country.
That begins with a campaign of unity where those of us in the independence movement bury our differences.
Everybody in the Independence movement knows there is majority support but that support will transfer to victory only with concerted effort comprising one independent supporting candidate in each constituency and an alliance on the list. Anything less, where there is division or partisan conduct, lets our country and our ambitions down. The people of Scotland deserve better.
The people of Scotland deserve to be liberated. The return of self-determination is truly within our grasp provided we come together as a movement, forget past disputes and fix our eyes and gaze single-mindedly on the bright future we can create together.
